Assignment Process

Our success is based on a straightforward and transparent approach at all stages of every search.

As first point of contact for potential senior hires we never lose sight of the fact we are ambassadors to your business.

The selection process will include the following stages:

  • 1. Specification of Requirements

We will initially meet with you to fully scope out and analyse the requirement.

At this meeting we will gain an in depth summary of the history, performance and culture of your organisation, reason for the appointment, a full and detailed role profile, agreed job description and person specification.

We will also recommend and agree a search methodology at this stage which will be tailored to each assignment.

We will we then produce a proposal outlining the agreed approach and a specification of requirements document for all parties to agree and sign off prior to commencement of the search.

  • 2. Identification & Approach

Having agreed with you the appropriate search methodology we will then:

Create a research plan which will incorporate the identification of target companies that may employ potential candidates,  (companies off limits are also identified) we will work to map out the organisation and compile of list of all relevant potential candidates prior to head hunting.

Utilising our in-house research capability, we will then collate a long list of relevant candidates that we will headhunt based our understanding of the requirement. This list will be generated from a number of sources including our research plan, our extensive in house database as well as local and national professional client and candidate networks.

Depending on the agreed approach we would advertise the opportunity where relevant utilising the most appropriate advertising medium either confidentially or utilising your company logo.

Contact all potential candidates from the long list for an initial screening and to assess suitability and to ask for referrals.  At this stage we assess skills and experience along with motivations. All pre-qualified suitable and interested candidates will be invited to meet with us for a formal face to face screening interview.

  • 3. Parkinson|Lee interviews

Once we have agreed a long list of potential candidates we will then begin the process of face to face interviews, candidate qualification and assessment.

All candidates will be assessed via a competency based interview. It is usual to ask the same questions of each potential candidate to enable us to benchmark and highlight the most relevant individuals as part of our shortlist. (We would pre agree these questions at the outset of the assignment with our client)

Candidates are assessed for suitability not only on skills and experience but importantly on personality and cultural fit.

Candidates that do not meet the required standard are informed at this stage.

  • 4. Shortlist & Client Interviews

We will present you with a shortlist of candidates in the form of a detailed CV, interview notes and profile.  This will include an appraisal/assessment of the individual’s strengths and weaknesses with regards to the position and his/her appropriateness as a candidate.  Any potential issues are also noted - i.e. relocation or other roles the candidate may be considering.

Shortlists usually contain no more than 4-6 strong candidates.

We facilitate first/second interviews and assessments ensuring we engage with both you and the candidates through every stage to de-brief and feedback.

At final stage we will liaise with candidates to manage expectations to ensure suitability for both parties. Depending on our clients' preferences, we will conduct full referencing on all candidates that reach the final stage of the process. We would usually seek the last 2 employer references but can also undertake 360 Degree referencing where required.

  • 5. Offer Management

Throughout the process we will always clarify each candidate's career aspirations and remuneration requirements and these will be communicated on presentation of our shortlist.

We understand that in today's economic climate organisations are keen to retain key talent and in our experience over 60 % of offers made are subject to counter offers. We will work with you to broker an offer we feel is realistic and agreeable to both parties.

We will manage any negotiations, provide resignation coaching where appropriate and counter offer counselling to ensure successful conclusion to the assignment.

  • 6. Post Start Date Follow Up

Our aim at the outset of every assignment is the delivery of a successful and long term appointment.

Post placement, we continually communicate with both our client and the successful candidate. Within the first six months we would seek to arrange review meetings as appropriate in order to deliver relevant feedback and ensure a successful on boarding and completion to our assignment.

Working as Human Resources Director for UK Coal Plc whilst the company was delivering a challenging financial turnaround, I struggled to attract candidates for key business critical roles. Lee Bhandal at Parkinson|Lee Executive Search was recommended to me by a member of the Board as a highly credible and well respected Executive Search Consultant, with the ability to understand the sector in which the organisation operated.

He quickly grasped the organisational strategy, performance goals (some linked to government), market factors and essentially how to translate it all into an attractive proposition for candidates.

Several executive appointments were made across the Group from Lee’s recommendations, greatly strengthening the function and the organization structure at this critical time.

  • Powell Industries

Powell Industries were recently looking to appoint a Finance Director based at our UK Head Office in West Yorkshire. We approached Lee Bhandal at Parkinson|Lee Executive Search on the back of a recommendation and we were thoroughly impressed with both Lee and Parkinson|Lee throughout the process.

We had an initial briefing meeting to scope out the position and Lee recommended an advertised search campaign.  At this stage we felt confident in both Lee’s market knowledge, which is exceptional and also his ability to fully understand our business, what we needed and the right solution at a cost effective price. The recruitment piece was relatively complex as it required interaction not only with UK representatives of Powell but also colleagues in Houston, Texas.

The process ran to the timescales Lee had suggested and he worked in partnership with us throughout, delivering a highly professional and quality service at all times.

Parkinson|Lee provided us with a shortlist of outstanding candidates that not only matched the role profile but also matched our business culture, values and goals.  We could have appointed one of a number of the shortlisted individuals but were delighted when our chosen candidate accepted the position.

We would also add that the candidates we interviewed have given us very positive feedback in relation to how they feel they have been managed by Parkinson|Lee Executive Search from a candidate perspective.

  • 30/08/2016 Leeds fifth most affluent city in the UK
A new report has shown that every region in the UK is more prosperous than it was last year, with Leeds ranking as one of the most affluent cities in the country.

The city took fifth place in the ranking of the UK’s most wealthy cities; it is the most affluent city in the North and has the potential to challenge London and the South-East for affluence. The Barclays’ Prosperity Map marks Leeds as a ‘prosperity hotspot’, noting it as an ‘increasingly attractive place to live and work.’

Other Northern city have performed strongly on entrepreneurial activity, with Manchester and Sheffield both seeing large increases in SME turnover. Manchester has seen a 15% increase in SME turnover, and Sheffield has seen an 11% increase in the same, indicating a growth in prosperity for these areas.

Despite the success of the region’s major cities, Yorkshire as a whole has ranked close to the bottom for regional figures, at 11th place, with only the North-East ranking lower for prosperity.

The report has calculated regional scores based on a variety of factors; these include gross domestic product (GDP), house prices, charitable giving, working hours, and average house prices.

Paul Swinney, a principal economist at the Centre For Cities, said that the lowest performing areas would need ‘investment in skills,’ especially those places that have been affected by industrial decline.

He said: “The most vibrant places are those which have high-skilled workforces, and which have focused on supporting firms and employment in the knowledge-based service sectors. By making these issues a priority, regions across the UK can start attract more of the industries and jobs which offer the best prospects of long-term growth and prosperity.”
  • 30/08/2016 Deloitte surpasses £3bn revenue and firm expands
Business advisors Deloitte has reported its fastest growth in revenue in a decade, after advising on deals worth more than £1bn in Yorkshire in year.

In the year ending May 31st, the firm increased its group revenue by £313m, breaking the £3bn barrier for the first time. Across the UK, its total revenue grew by 13.6% to an overall £3.04bn; this amounts to six consecutive years of revenue growth, and the fastest increase in the past ten years.

Transactions totalling more than £1bn have been made by its merger and acquisitions teams during this period, including the sale of York-based Shepherd Group’s construction division to Wates. It has also advised on high-profile sales such as Endless-backed FMG to Redde  and the initial public offering of Morses Group.

Martin Jenkins, Practice Senior Partner for Yorkshire and the North East, said: “I am pleased to report another year of strong growth for the firm and our clients in Yorkshire in line with the national picture.”

Despite the positive growth, Senior Partner and Chief Executive David Sproul expressed wariness over the economy following the Brexit vote, saying that that growth would ‘inevitably slow.’

“The early economic indicators suggest the uncertainty created by the Brexit vote will lead to a slowdown in the second half of this year,” he commented. “However, UK businesses are both adaptable and resourceful and the UK remains in the top tier of the world’s most competitive economies, benefitting from strong institutions and a highly-skilled workforce.”

Sproul also gave an insight into the most active industries dealt with by Deloitte, saying the firm had seen ‘notable growth’ in its health and life sciences, financial services, manufacturing and technology, media and telecommunications sectors.

He has left us in a strong position and with a host of talented people with which to build the Airedale Group’s future.”
  • 30/08/2016 Account Director Appointed at the Floow
The Sheffield based telematics business The Floow has hired Daniel Bird as its new Direct Line Group telematics contract Account Director.

The former BLG Group Ltd Partner Manager will take over from Claire Sargeant, who has been promoted to Client Development after two years with the business.

Daniel is now the dedicated day-to-day point of contact for Direct Line, which has appointed The Floow to deliver its smartphone applications and telematics data for DrivePlus systems. He arrives at the telematics firm with over nine years’ experience in the industry, having work for the affinity arm of the BGL Group. Here, he provided services for major UK financial services and retail brands including RAC, Marks & Spencer, Money and Lloyds Banking Group. He also oversaw the proposition development and insurer relationships for O2 Drive and O2 Drive Box on Board.

Commenting on the appointment, Claire Sargeant said: “The Floow has a track record for being a market disrupter and, as a result, we have enjoyed rapid growth over the last couple of years. Daniel joins us at a very exciting time as the company reaches into new sectors and markets by diversifying our offering and continuing to drive an entrepreneurial and innovative culture.”

Daniel added: “I have followed The Floow’s growth since their creation and am delighted to have the opportunity to join them at this very exciting time.  I’m looking forward to working with DLG and realising the potential that The Floow and the UK’s largest motor insurer have together.”
